Ballymackey u12 girls made the long trip to Killarney today to take on mek galaxy in the first round of the national cup. We left ballymackey by bus at 11 and and the girls enjoyed their trip down with a sing song despite a detour through west limerick due a road closure. The weather had turned by the time we reached Killarney and the players, coaches and supporters were all soaked through by the end of the match. ballymackey didn’t let the conditions affect them and were on the front foot straight away, in the first half Olivia Looby and Olivia Fitzpatrick helped themselves to a couple of goals each. Grainne Troy also scored a couple either side of half time. At the back niamh Spain and Anna Fitzgerald defended resolutely,. the second half was a more sedate affair as both teams tired on the heavy pitch, mek galaxy to their credit kept plugging away and were rewarded with a goal late on. Ballymackey advanced to the next round and many thanks to mek galaxy for their great welcome and for the treat bags they gave to the girls for the journey home. conditions were so wet we weren’t able to get a team photo after the match so instead it’s a picture of the girls on a happy and loud bus journey home.
