U13 Girls Cup Final V Killavilla
Our U13 girls played in the North Tipp Cup Final today in Brickfields Nenagh.
Conditions couldn't have been better for this match, sun shining on a beautiful day!
Irish International Clodagh Daly dropped in before the game to give some advice to our eager girls! The game started as expected at a very high tempo, both teams slightly nervous and looking to get on top early. Killavilla definitely started the strongest and came close to scoring on two occasions in the opening minutes. Ballymackey weathered the early storm and scored the opener with a brilliantly taken goal by Telma Sanz Irusta. It was the in form Maeve Quinn who gave the assist from midfield. We were probably still thinking about that goal when Killavilla tore straight through us to score themselves, it was 1-1 and game on! Both teams battled hard from here but it was Ballymackey who struck next. Elsa Fitzgerald held the ball up very well in the Killavilla box and the ball eventually broke free to Caoimhe Manley who hit an amazing strike to score our second. It was 2-1 at half time.
The second half was hectic also and our back line were under early pressure. Holly Fitzpatrick led her back line superbly to keep Killavilla away from our goals. Lily Dunne, Eva Bailey and Moira Meehan all did tremendous work to shore up the defence. Our midfielders of Amy Keogh, Eimear Dillion, Maeve Quinn, Caoimhe Manley, Aisling Ryan and Ciara Grimes were now controlling the game. The energy of Amy Keogh was a big factor especially as the game wore on, Killavilla we're finding it hard to defend her runs down the wing. Maeve Quinn and Caoimhe Manley worked tirelessly in centre midfield to keep things going our way. Katie Hartnett was once again very solid in goals all day.
After about 20 minutes we got another goal. This one was another cracker! It came from Telma once again. She took the ball straight through their defence, taking on several players before putting it past the Killavilla keeper, a brilliant goal!! The game finished 3-1 and Ballymackey were Cup champions 🏆. The girl to lift the cup was player of the match Holly Fitzpatrick.
Our panel today was Katie Hartnett, Eva Bailey, Lily Dunne, Moira Meehan, Holly Fitzpatrick, Amy Keogh, Caoimhe Manley, Maeve Quinn, Aisling Ryan, Eimear Dillon, Ciara Grimes, Elsa Fitzgerald, Telma Sanz Irusta, Leanne Bergin, Fionualla Hayes, and Kate England.
These girls have worked incredibly hard all year and it was fantastic for them to get just rewards!!
