U12 div 1 V Rearcross Our U12 div 1. boys were away to Rearcross tonight in what was probably the coldest evening of the year so far! The cold wind didn't stop these 2 teams going at each other and it was end to end for ages before the home side finally hit our net. The goal was fortuitous enough and I think our defence just haven't had the time together yet to iron out a few things. With that said our defence were not found wanting for guts and determination with Scott Powell at the front here. We chased after the equaliser and our efforts were rewarded when Oliver Duff did extremely well to cross a difficult ball to Paul Williams who hit the top corner with a fantastic shot to make it 1-1. The second half was hard going on Ballymackey because we were now playing against the wind which had picked up considerably. We battled away and Evan Grace, Charlie Cummins and Ben Delaney were fighting all the way. We were delighted to have Ryan Kennedy back with us who couldn't have gave any more of himself. Tonight's captain James Mounsey had another solid performance. Myles Kelly Baumeistars and Jack Gilmartin were very solid also both players getting better with each game. Sean Ryan is fast becoming a great defender, absolutely no messing with this guy! It looked like the game would stay 1-1 but then Rearcross got in for a well taken goal. Before we knew it they scored again, this one against the run of play. Tomas Tierney was brilliant all evening and he didn't deserve 3 going past him. It was now 3-1 and we looked beaten. That wasn't the case however because everyone on the pitch fought incredibly hard and we were rewarded once again when Jack Gilmartin hit the net and no more than Jack deserved. We tried desperately for the equaliser but unfortunately time ran out. Definitely fair to say that we were unlucky here but this team are still getting used to playing with each other so we can only improve!!
Many thanks to Rearcross for hosting us and thanks also to the great Jimmy McCarthy for reffing.
