Our U12's had a very hard fought 3-0 victory this afternoon in Ballinree. Three goals to nil might sound like a handy win but it was anything but. The game had a slow start as both teams had their first outing this season and were a little match rusty. We actually started the better and looked like scoring early on but BT harps got their game going and began putting us under pressure. They kept this pressure on for most of the first half and kept Matthew Bergin very busy in goals. Callum Ryan, Conall Hartnett and James Mounsey were also busy in front of Matthew clearing up anything that came their way. KJ Dunne and Colm O'Brien were working hard in the middle helped by James Ryan and Charle Cummins who also kept BT at bay. With such a big panel we were busy bringing lads on and off and towards the end of the half we had six subs on. Daithi Kennedy, Donnacha Kelly and James Hanrahan were on the ball loads when they came in as were Liam Kennedy, Neil Merchant and Evan Grace. It was from this combination of lads that our first goal came from. They harried and hassled for the ball, won it and lost it and won again before giving it to our striker Dara Wyles to stick in the net for a goal that was nearly against the run of play! BT as expected came strong in the second half looking for an equaliser but some very strong defensive work from Callum and Conall kept them out. Colm and KJ were giving BT plenty to do up the other end. Mid way through the second half it looked too tight to call this game and it was end to end. With ten minutes to go KJ came up with some magic and put the ball to the roof of the net from a distance. This gave us big relief and took the pressure off a bit. As the game ticked down and time nearly up Colm O'Brien sloted one home after a brilliant cross by KJ to give us a 3-0 win. Well done to all the lads!
