Recent games between Ballymackey and Newport U18s have been Goal feasts, so it was quite surprising to see this match finish scoreless after 90 minutes. There was some rustiness from the girls who were playing their first match since December 8th, but they played some excellent football particularly in the middle 3rd. Both sides had their chances to win the match. Newport Goalie Chelsea King made a string of good saves from several excellent Aoibhín Delaney free kicks and a couple of Amy Bergin efforts. Ballymackeys back line defended solidly and we looked dangerous in attack but our Midfield of Kate Cavanagh, Aoibhín Delaney, Chelsea White and Hazel Cawley were behind most of our best moments with some excellent possession football.
Ballymackey would like to wish the best of luck to Hazel Cawley who has been training and playing with our Boys and Girls for the past few months in the League of Ireland off season. She is off back to Peamount for the upcoming U17 League of Ireland season and we are sure all her hard work will pay off for her going forward.
