Ballymackey Under 15 came from behind twice to draw 3-3 at home to a very good Knigh United side in glorious Autumn sunshine in Ballinree. A slow start saw Ballymackey fall behind to an early goal. Ballymackey were good value for their equaliser before half time with Robyn O Dwyer releasing Ciara Ryan behind a high defensive line and she sprinted clear to finish very well past the outrushing Knigh Goalkeeper. The second half was a end to end affair but Knigh hit a purple patch around 15 minutes in and scored 2 quick fire goals the first taking a wicked deflection to go in. For the next 5 minutes Ballymackey struggled to gey out of their half as Knigh pressed for a 4th to close the game out but Molly Ryan was at her best in goals and frustrated the visitors with excellent saves and top class handling. Ballymackey regained their composure and again started to threaten the away goal. A great surge forward by Devlyn Spillane saw her enter a crowded box where some magic footwork saw her create enough space for a great shot that cannoned back off the upright, Abbie O Dwyer reacted quickest to loop the ball into the net over the Knigh net-minder. Further home pressure resulted in a Ballymackey corner and a great Clodagh Daly delivery was attacked by several players with Caoimhe Delaney getting the vital touch to push the ball home for the equaliser. The remaining minutes saw both teams attacking looking for a winner but committed defence saw the game finish with honours shared. It was a great game of football with both teams trying to play the ball through the thirds of the field with both defences trying to be positive in possession, which resulted in a great match to watch. A fantastic performance from the Ballymackey girls who had suffered a heavy defeat to the same opposition last April. The defining characteristic of this Ballymackey team is their strength of character in being able to take knocks and set backs and bounce back again and again. Molly Ryan, Tess O Donovan, Ciara Ryan and Devlyn Spillane had stand out displays and our player of the match was Clodagh Daly with a classy performance. The rest of the team included Maeve Steed, Emer Moroney, Kelsey Hogan, Kitty Murphy, Robyn O Dwyer, Abbie O Dwyer, Caoimhe Delaney and Orla Kelly who all were all to a player excellent on the day
