Ballymackey U18 Girls came out on top of what has now become a traditional high scoring encounter with Newport. Recent games between these sides have produced at least 8 goals and Ballymackey won this one by the odd goal in 11. A good first 55 minutes saw the home side lead 6-2 playing bright, adventurous, varied attacking football. We took the opportunity of the big lead to give some of our defensive players a rest and our visitors closed the gap before the finish, which gave our attacking players a new appreciation of the specialists who ply their trade in our half of the field. We conceded a lot from set plays and this is an area of learning for us but loads and loads of positives as we manipulated the ball very well around the pitch and scored some excellent team goals. Amy Bergin with a brace, Niamh Cunneen, Chelsea White, Aoibhín Delaney and Laura Mc Carthy were our goal scorers. A fine team display from the goal scorers and Anna Grace, Miriam Murphy, Aoibheann Slattery, Maria Moroney, Niamh O Brien, Ellen Cunneen, Kate Kavanagh, Ellie Troy, Chloe McAuliffe and Aíne Tuohy. Finally just a note of appreciation to the commitment of these girls 3 girls came straight to this match after playing a Rugby match in Thurles and 7 of girls who played have a Minor County Camogie Semi Final the next day. Very dedicated sports people👏👏
