Ballymackey Women move on to the second round of the Leinster Football Association Women’s Cup following a 5-0 win at home to Carlow’s Ballymurphy Celtic. Ballymackey were quick out of the blocks and took an early lead. Amber De Lewis showed for a ball in a central area and played a great ball to release Allison McDonnell down the right wing. McDonnell reached the by line and whipped in a great cross , that DeLewis steamed into the box to head home. Ballymackey continued to play as they started and Amber DeLewis completed her hat trick to leave the home side with a 3-0 half time lead. Ballymackey made a raft of changes at the break and soon after, with DeLewis among those getting an early rest. A strong bench meant Ballymackey continued to play with the same quality in the second half and 2 goals by Seonaid McGuigan were their reward for another good half of football. McGuigans first when she waltzed through the centre of Ballymurphy’s defence and finished 1 on 1 with the keeper was the pick of her brace. A huge Workrate by the girls allowed them to play the quality football they did and it was another easy on the eye performance by the ladies. Allison McDonnell along with goal scorers Amber DeLewis with her first senior hattrick and Seonaid McGuigan had standout displays and the player of the match was Lisa Toohey with another all action display.
