U12 GIRLS V ENNIS TOWN National Cup.
We travelled to Ennis Town for the first round of the national cup today, Saturday 7th Oct.
The game started with high tempo and Ballymackey were looking very strong in the early phases. Bit by bit though, Ennis came into the game and the affair was well balanced. Both sides had great opportunities but both goalkeepers were on form. Our defence of Eva Bailey, Kate England and Lily Dunne were outstanding while our midfielders we're pressing hard. Maeve Quinn was particularly busy and giving Ennis lots to do. Eventually we got a free from the edge of the box and up stepped Caoimhe Manley to put away a fabulous goal !!
Elsa Fitzgerald on one wing and Sally Mounsey on the other were having loads of the ball and playing great stuff. We were really looking good when midway through the second half, Ennis got an equaliser. It was game on again.
Holly Fitzpatrick was playing brilliantly along with Caoimhe in the midfield and we were hoping for a winner. Leanne Bergin and Aisling Ryan had also very good games and showed brilliant skill a number of times! Callie Mitchell was close a few times up front but the Ennis backs were resilient. Into extra time and it was anyone's game. It was end to end for a while until eventually Ennis got the break and scored what was to be the winner. Our girls are a work in progress and should be very proud of their efforts today.
Well done to Ennis Town and the very best of luck to them. A mention of thanks to them for the best hospitality you could ask for, we were well looked after!
Thanks also to today's ref.
Up Ballymackey!
